Born in 1976, Belgrade.
Ivan Grubanov received his education at the Belgrade Academy of Fine Arts, the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam, Delfina Studios in London and Casa de Velazquez in Madrid. His solo shows include the Serbian Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennial, Ron Mandos Gallery in Amsterdam and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens.
Ivan Grubanov explores the limits of art as a tool for driving social change and for documenting and interpreting history, in painting, drawing, and installation work.
The video work Beauty of Believing has been commissioned by Stroom Den Haag; the temporary architecture of a stage, the carrier of either political ideologies or meaningless entertainment, forms the scenery for a meeting where commemoration and collective oblivion seem to coincide.
