Claudia Plank & Hans Werner Poschauko
Claudia Plank was born in 1969 and Poschauko in 1963 in CITY. They live and work in Vienna.
They both studied at the Hochschule für angewandte Kunst in Vienna, and were students of Maria Lassnig and Ernst Caramelle. Afterwards they did a postgraduate at the Jan van Eyck Academie Maastricht in the Netherlands in the class of Guillaume Bijl, Mona Hatoum, Jimmie Durham and Jean Fisher.
Claudia Plank and Hans Werner Poschauko work together since 1990. They take a critical attitude towards the so-called “makeable” body or identity.
De performance “Innere Sicherheit - Zur Dekonstruktion des nationalen Mythos” (Homeland security - on the deconstruction of national mythos) took place in the context of the performance festival of the Burgtheater Wien on 18.3.2000. In the ice cold rain Plank and Poschauko cut up a gigantic Austrian flag into little pieces, accompanied by the tragic music of Schubert and Ruei Ran Wu. A poetic act against conservatism and a call for questioning a social reality in a society of neoliberal capitalism.
